The Original Belgian Waffle



  • 1 c. plus 2 tbsp. self-rising flour
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1/2 c. melted butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  1. Mix flour and sugar.
  2. Add a little milk and mix well.
  3. Combine egg yolks with the remaining milk and mix until smooth.
  4. Add melted butter.
  5. Beat egg whites until peaks form.
  6. Fold gently into batter.
  7. Add vanilla and stir.
  8. Pour from a cup or pitcher onto hot waffle iron.
  9. Bake 5 minutes or until it stops steaming.
  10. Remove waffles carefully.
  11. Enjoy!!!!

In Belgium they are very big on vegetable soups.

Pom Koek (Belgian Coffee Cake)



  • Mix together dry ingredients

  • 3 cups flour

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 t soda

  • 1 t cinnamon

  • 1/4 t cloves

  • 1 t salt

  • Mix together

  • 1 cup honey

  • 1 cup hot coffee

  • 1 egg

  • 1/3 cup Mazola oil


  1. Mix with dry ingredients, using a spoon.

  2. Bake in 9x4x2" pan Butter pan and put a piece of waxed paper in bottom so the cake will come out easily

  3. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes.

  4. You cannot see when it is done; use a tooth pick to see if center is done.

  5. Serve with butter, sliced thinly.


This traditional cake is usually made during the holiday season.It is also given to people as gifts from their guests. This cake was created in 1937 and is not changing soon. Over time many families have changed some ingredients to make it their own but this will always be a Belgian favorite!

Belgian Truffles



  • ¼ cup of butter
  • 8 oz. of white chocolate chopped coursely
  • ¾ of a cup of sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp. of vanilla extract
  • ½ cup of flaked coconut
  • Chopped ½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Heavy saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Cookie sheet
  • Wax paper

  1. Add butter and chocolate to a heavy saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan on very low heat. Melt the butter and chocolate until smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Using a wooden spoon, mix the ingredients in the saucepan until thickened.Add vanilla and sugar to the mixture and mix.
  4. Refrigerate the mixture for five minutes.
  5. Place wax paper on the cookie sheet.
  6. Spread the coconut and cocoa powder into separate shallow dishes.
  7. Shape the chocolate mixture into 1-inch balls. Coat half of each ball in coconut and the other half in cocoa.Place the 1-inch balls onto the cookie sheet.
  8. Refrigerate for at least one hour.
  9. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
